On Saturday I had my second apointment with my new dentist.  A 30 minute procedure will provide me with a new tooth this coming Saturday.  More visits will follow in the next couple of weeks - what has to be done has to be done!  Going to our favorite sushi place later on was not that much fun, since my lower jaw was still feeling kind of numb.  Despite that I did enjoy the meal!

Sunday and the last (long) weekend before summer vacation will end this week Thursday.  Since the weather was great we went to Uchiko, something like 50 kilometers from our place.  Why?  I found a pamphlet at school advertising an "eat-all-you-can" grape place.

And it was true.  For ¥1.000 per person we were able to eat as many grapes as we wanted, 5 different kinds ranging from blue over purple to greenish-yellow, self-picked.  The taste?  DELICIOUS!!  I guess that together with Tomomi the two of us ate at least 4 kilogram.  Not bad considering that normally you pay for one pound of grapes roughly ¥500 - 600.   It was definitely worth going out there.   DSC_0008.JPGDSC_0004.JPG

Friday last week (19 August) it was "M-day".  The new classroom building of Kawauchi Junior High School was completed, so it was time to get everything set up again.

Since most of the stuff was already packed by the teachers during the summer vacation period we now had to move all the furniture and hundreds of boxes.  Luckily the Takada moving company was present, too, taking care of the "heavy equipment".  On Monday all students came to school and did an outstanding  job in helping with this task.

The new building itself - GREAT!  Pine flooring and walls (well at least upto a height of roughly 1 meter), "digital whiteboards" (or as they are called here SMART-boards) in all classrooms, a teacher's room which is much larger than the old one - I guess we can't ask for more.

The "obon-season" has started over here in Japan.  This is the time when the spirits of the ancestors are believed to return and in addition the time for many Japanese to take a couple of days off from work.  We also visited Tomomi's family's graves, did some cleaning and so on and made our short prayers.

As for our school, since Friday last week 3 to 4 teachers at the most are present.  This again gave me a good chance to check out the new school building, from the outside only, of course.

The first picture shows the teachers room (South side) on the first floor with classrooms on the second and third floor.

The second picture shows the entrance for teachers and visitors.  On Friday we will start moving and will hopefully be finished with everything on 22 August.  After that we have another week to get used to all the new "goodies"

I hope our students will appreciate the new school building and equipment!

Oh well, summer vacation is almost ending.  Another three days and more or less regular (school-)life will begin.  We did, however, have a great time.  Besides taking care of a lot of things at home like re-arranging my lesson room, doing some "special" laundry, we were able to visit our friends in Matsuyama (Tsukasa and Tomoko) who had invited us to come to their place and stay overnight.  A great dinner and breakfast, lots of talking - YES, it was fun.

In addition we went to Omishima, a one day trip, enjoying a nice lunch and visiting places I had been to a couple of times.

I also had my first apointment with my new dentist out here in Toon-shi.  Aqua DC is quite some place, a dentist who understands my previous problem (dental phobia) they did a very good job on my teeth.  I will go and see them again on 20 August.

Oh, and Tomomi got her new sewing machine - Singer, previously produced in Germany, now of course in China.  She seems to be so happy with it, butshe will have to learn how to operate a computerized sewing machine.

And that's it for today.

My SMART (litlle car) had some minor (?) tire problems.  I had bought them something like 4 years ago and cuts showed up on the outside walls.  So it was time to get new ones.

Checking for a good price I was given so many different answers.  One place wanted to have roughly 60.000 Yen (or 520 Euros) for a set of Bri...stone tires, another possibility was almost 50.000 Yen (or Euros 450) for a set of Yoko...as.  I always wanted to have a quality set of tires but this price - oh well, no comment.

Finally one of our teachers at school told me about Yahoo auctions, where he had done quite some shopping.  He checked a couple of pages for me and came up with a set of Dun..p tires, four of them for 17.800 Yen, produced the 22nd week of 2011 - so no old junk at all!  What a difference.  And my friend from the gas station will charge me 1.000 Yen for mounting the tires on the rims - could I ask for more??
